Cook it yourself with a stunning view for inspiration
We toured the South Island of New Zealand with Active New Zealand in 2010. The last night was spent at Braemar Station, a sheep ranch near Mt. Cook.
I could have shared the photo of the meal, which was a delicious grilled salmon we'd purchased from a nearby farm on the way to the ranch, served with creamy scalloped potatoes & a fresh salad. It would look much the same as if you cooked it at home, though this was mouth-wateringly fresh & prepared with pride by our driver, who (lucky for us) used to be a chef. What made it even more amazing was the totally uninterrupted vista of Mt. Cook, the Ben Ohau Range & Lake Pukaki. The view in this photo is literally right outside the cabin. There's a main house with a kitchen & showers, as well as a couple of small bunkhouses. The sunrise the next morning was even more mind-blowing, but that's a subject for another highlight!
