Boca da Valéria

Some 24 kilometers (15 miles) east of Parintins, Boca da Valéria is a modest village with a small white-washed church and wooden stilt houses built on the banks of a tributary of the Amazon. Indigenous kids dress for visitors in not-exactly authentic costumes and adults sell handcrafts such as carved wooden bird wall hangings, jewelry and model boats. Guests can take short walks in the jungly land of orchids and birdlife while locals greet them as they move through the water in their canoes.
