Chocolate heaven in Leuven
Paying a wee visit to the Bittersweet Chocolatier, while visiting Leuven, is a must! Chocolate is everywhere in Belgium but chocolate with a twist is more difficult to find. The chocolate masters at Bittersweet are doing just that, giving chocolate a bit of an edge mixing dark and milk chocolate with different flavors and coming up with some excellent results. Chili chocolate, dark chocolate with a smooth filling, white chocolate with raspberry filling, pistachio filling, ganache, crunchy chocolate, chocolate with sticky caramel filling, are just a few of the kinds of chocolate they are making in this little corner of heaven. Out of all of them, the chili chocolate was my favorite. Full of flavor with a spicy finish. Their fudge is out of this world and this is coming from someone who is not a fan of fudge. I would have eaten the whole tray, it was so good. Everything they have on display is made manually in the back room of the little store and you can see them at work while you are in there. They were very kind and let us see them work and even try the dark chocolate pouring in the mixer. That made my son's day. Apart from making and selling chocolate they are also offering workshops for groups of 4 people every Saturday. The participants receive a 125g homemade chocolate to take home. The workshop takes about two hours and the price per person is thirty-five euro.
