One of my favourite aspects of traveling is the food! In Kyrgyzstan some may joke the main food groups are meat, grease and as little veggies as possible. But after you're here a while you start to realize that if you want to be pleasantly surprised, reach for a 'samsa', or meat pie. Usually filled with potatoes, onions, pepper and mutton, every bite is a pleasure. When you’re in Bishkek especially, there variations of the recipe on every street corner and every bite is a surprise. Today I was pleasantly surprised by a roasted chicken variation, which was delicious beyond words. So the next time someone tells you that food in Kyrgyzstan is not interesting go on a samsa hunt and you will not be disappointed!
