Homemade Ice Cream in a Cool Town

Montana gets pretty darn cold in the winter, but the Big Dipper ice cream shop never shuts its doors. From traditional scoops to thick shakes, everyone can get their fill—even when the snow is falling. Mobbed with runners, bikers, tourists, and retirees during the summer, the cooler months at the hometown hangout are less busy, but the creamy treats taste just as good.

The seasonal Pumpkin ice cream is yummy, but I may never be able to walk away without a scoop of the amazing Black Licorice on a sugar cone.

The "Dipper" has a truck that blasts good tunes and makes appearances at local parks and at University of Montana football games, but you can always find the original at 631 South Higgins in the heart of Missoula.
