"Never In The Field Of Human Conflict Was So Much Owed By So Many To So Few" - W. Churchill
Whew! What a memorial!
Younger generations(I'm one of them) probably might not have any idea what this is all about ... but they should make it a point to stop by this outstanding bronze memorial scupltures along Victoria Embankment, a couple of minutes walk from Big Ben.
Early in World War II, when Britain stood alone against the Nazi juggernaut, young pilots came from all over Europe to help Britain defend itself from Nazi invasion. It seemed like an impossible task at that time for these Spitfire pilots fighting the Luftwaffe, sometimes on two or three missions a day - but they prevailed and this was one of the major turning points of the war.
The skill of the sculptor is breathtaking and you don't need to be an art critic to appreciate it's magnificence. It's free - don't miss it!
