The day I took a bike tour of Bali was one of my favorites. We started out at high elevation, eating breakfast on a deck overlooking Mount Agung. The bike tour then took us through villages, past rice terraces, across rivers, through tropical jungle and past these women sifting rice in a paddy.
Watching them work made me appreciate the incredible effort that goes into getting that bag of rice into my grocery store and then onto my dinner table. These women, and a few men, were working in oppressive heat, bending, lifting and sifting over and over again.
The bike tour allowed me to get out of the highly touristed areas of Bali, and the opportunity to watch these women work was a true highlight of my trip.
