Like a gourmand’s treasure chest, this stylish bakery occupies a space in the city’s hippest venue, the retrofitted Pearl Brewery. It’s the lair of husband-and-wife team, Anne Ng and Jeremy Mandrell, who first met in the kitchen of Thomas Keller’s Bouchon in Sonoma. Their pedigrees show in an attention to detail and an ardor that chefs feel for every ingredient in their repertoire, “from the miller’s flour to the dairy farmer’s eggs and butter,” says Ng. A revolving menu includes classics like croissants, scones, butterscotch brownies, colorful, delicate macarons, and pecan sticky buns, while a daily, savory tart will sate the lunchtime client.
