The Fortress between Two Seas
In the 16th century, the Portuguese built this moated fortress to secure the lucrative trade routes along the northern coast of Bahrain. From the atmospheric, three-meter-tall Asyrian doorways to the evocative morning light they cast upon the foundation of this fort, these ruins of the ancient capital of Dilmun (circa 2300B.C.E.) are a photographer's and armchair archeologist's delight, not to mention a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
