Finding a relatively affordable, healthy lunch in San Isidro isn’t always easy. Don Mario, however, rises to the challenge with its generous sandwiches on fresh baked bread, and salad bowls piled high with what seems to be more lettuce and fresh vegetables (washed in clean water) than in hip Barranco and touristy Miraflores combined. Start with a maracuyà juice, followed by a honey and sobrasada sausage bocadito sandwich (ask for it toasted). Or try a heart of palm, avocado, hard-boiled egg, and cheese salad to leave room for a house-made cream-stuffed pastry for dessert. For an even more affordable lunch, grab a loaf of ciabatta and some slices of country-style and English ham to go, and dine al fresco by the water.
