Explore Back Bay
Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a true oasis that's far from the oceanfront crowds. Located in a remote area of southeast Virginia Beach along the North Carolina border, Back Bay is a great place to see wildlife, including foxes and wild horses. You can also spot a variety of birds, such as heron, ospreys, and maybe even a bald eagle if you're lucky. The best way to explore the area is by water with Surf & Adventure Co. In addition to stand-up paddleboarding and kayak tours in Back Bay, it offers surf lessons and beach equipment rentals for nearby Sandbridge Beach.
