Awaji Island

Whichever side of Awaji—the Inland Sea's largest island—that you cruise along, you're guaranteed some breathtaking views. At the northern tip of the island, the Akashi Strait Bridge's central span is the world’s longest among suspension bridges. At its southern end, the 1.3-kilometer-wide (0.81-mile-wide) Naruto Strait, connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Inland Sea, is known for its massive, 15-meter-wide (50-foot-wide) whirlpools that roar and swirl under the Onaruto Bridge as the tides rush in and out.
