The surrounding Languedoc region was plagued by a reputation for producing cheap bulk wines until the recent arrival of craft winemakers. Find the best in Jean Guizard’s Aux Grands Vins de France, Montpellier’s oldest wine shop. Guizard, whose family wine-growing lineage in the Languedoc-Roussillon region extends back to 1580, took over the shop in 2009. The iconic cellar sits in the heart of L’Ecusson and was founded in 1944 just after the liberation of France following World War II. Today, it’s where the neighborhood’s oenophiles go to when in search of a fine drop.
