On certain days, it’s impossible deciding if I’m in the mood for a sweet, sour or savory meal. Even more difficult is deciding whether I’m craving the comfort of something warm- perfect for a windy, cold day in San Francisco - or the refreshing calm of eating something cold in the afternoon.
Atlas Cafe, in the Mission District of San Francisco, has found a way to combine yams, pickled red onions and feta cheese in a way that they can cohabit a toasted baguette without provoking a civil war. Perhaps the garlic olive oil has the power to smooth tensions? Beyond the unexpected harmony with which these ingredients compliment one another, the bread is hot and the yam is cold. My body is content.
