The Aspen Historical Society has one main mission and that is to preserve the integrity of Aspen and its historical sites. They do it the traditional way through policies and building regulations but they also communicate it to the community and visitors through various corky and fun manners. There are a multitude of tours that you can take of the ghost towns and specific areas and buildings in Aspen that have historic value. The best bang for your buck would be the History Coach that starts at the Wheeler Opera House and guided by a person dressed in 18th century attire. It goes around to many of the sites and gives an overall expansive look at Aspen’s history as first occupied by the Ute Indian and then developed into a mining town and how it evolved into a ski resort.
