Grindelwald is a Bernese Alpine village smaller than Interlaken but still popular with travelers, many who come here in the winter months for skiing and tobogganing and in the spring and summer to walk its scenic hiking trails. You might be familiar with the town from the movies: part of the James Bond film, On His Majesty's Secret Service, was filmed at an ice rink here and so was Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith! The area is ringed by imposing, majestic snow-capped mountains, including the famous Eiger.
We stayed at the Aspen Alpin Lifestyle Hotel, Grindelwald a 10-minute bus ride from the center of town—far enough outside of town that the only thing you hear from the contemporary rooms is the very unmodern sound of cowbells. The newly renovated three-star chalet-hotel has great views and a clean and modern spa with a sauna, an herbal bath, and a brine steam bath. Food is fresh and local, and guests can ski in and out of the property in the winter months.
