In Search of Melbourne's Best High Tea: The Langham
Tiffins upon tiffins of all things sweet and delicious were being paraded past me and settled on tables. My mouth was watering - I hadn't eaten breakfast - and the smell of warm scones and sweet fruit weren't helping keep my growling stomach at bay. "A chocolate indulgence tiffin?" I pointed at Katherine, "so the Signature Tiffin must be for you?" I nodded as a gorgeous platter piled high with sweets and perfect sandwiches were placed before me. "Yum..." I'd said it before even thinking about what I was saying and the server smiled, "we get that a lot." As the good girl I am I decided to go savory first; salmon, curried egg or traditional cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches, crab bites, or a sweet chutney on thick bread topped with panchetta and parmesan. Whilst the chocolate eclair - one of the centre points of the dish - was a bit of a dry let down, the fruit tarts and citrus tarts burst in your mouth, filled with a mix of sweet and sour deliciousness. The chocolate coated strawberries, wearing little milk and white chocolate tuxedos offered that punch Before the Langham High Tea I hated scones but these had been rated best in Australia so I had to try. Soft, plump, and buttery they were light and with the raspberry jam and cream, so perfect to finish the otherwise quite heavy high tea. Note: High tea is available Monday - Friday 10:30am - 4:30pm. There are also specially themed children's tiffin teas during holiday periods.
