I was planning a trip to Mendoza, Argentina by way of Santiago, Chile. As the crow flies, it’s a short hop between Santiago and Mendoza. But since I’m not a crow, I had to decide how to get across the Andes Mountains. Three choices: car, train or plane? Since we were pressed for time, the car got ruled out because we heard of the risk of long delays at the border crossing and slow truckers on the hilly turns. The train sounded like a lovely ride across the mountains, passing beautiful scenery and pastoral towns. But, the train takes the better part of a day with all the jostling in and out of stations. We opted for the plane. The LAN flight takes a little over one hour and it is spectacular. Besides providing amazing photo ops, the flight got us to Mendoza with almost a full day to spare.
