A Boutique Hotel That Will Suit You to a Tea
Come for the collection of old-fashioned teapots in the breakfast room window. Stay for cozy rooms accented with stained-glass rooms and antique furnishings, some with canal views. Endorsed by Rick Steves, Fodor's Choice, Time Out Amsterdam, Frommer's and Lonely Planet, Hotel Wiechmann sits on one of Amsterdam's most picturesque corners, just off the Negen Straatjes (Nine Little Streets) in the quiet Jordaan neighborhood. Three generations of the Wiechmann family have managed the boutique hotel since it was established in the 1940s in a restored canal house with its original steep stairs. Three adjoining canal houses have been added in the ensuing 70 years. There's no elevator, so ask for assistance to your room unless you're on a lower floor or prepared for a climb. The teapot display in the front window is among the extended family's private collections, amassed during the years they lived in the hotel and called it home. Such renowned musicians as The Flying Burrito Bros, Stephen Stills, Emmylou Harris and the Sex Pistols also have enjoyed stays. Today guests can hang out in the comfy lounge with its book exchange table, television and small bar. On sunny days, the canal-side front patio is a fine place to enjoy drinks while watching the street scene on Prinsengracht. A breakfast spread with breads, meats, cheeses, cereals, fruit juices, coffee and tea provides ample fuel for exploring city attractions, all within easy reach of The Wiechmann.
