One of my favorite places for photographing wildflowers in the Colorado mountains is American Basin which is near Lake City. The drive up to the the basin gets a little tricky and 4 wheel drive can be necessary. But, wow! so worth it. The flowers are gorgeous and the views are stunning. You can climb a 14er, Handies Peak, from the Basin. This is part way up Handies, looking back in the direction of Lake San Cristobol and Lake City. It was July. Everything was so green and vibrant. The mountains and valleys are huge, making you feel quite small. If you go to SW Colorado, be sure to see this. It is gorgeous.
