I don’t know about you but I love BYOB restaurants. It is a great way to save money and be able to pair your food with whatever you want! There aren’t many options in Philadelphia. But, luckily, we were able to find quite the hidden gem. Tucked away on the corner of 4th and South Street lies an amazing Middle Eastern restaurant named Alyan’s. When you first walk in it looks like just a take out restaurant but if you keep walking there is a hidden room in the back with 5 tables. It looks like you are sitting in the middle of a garden. The ceiling is covered but you can see the sunlight shine through the window panes. They had string lights, bright colored lanterns and bright green plants hanging all over the walls. On top of that on the booth side they had Moroccan themed pillows cover the couch. The whole atmosphere was beautiful. Keep in your mind you will be close to the other people dining but you still have your space. You feel like you are in a local restaurant in a different country. Defiantly not in the busy city of Philadelphia. That was just the décor.
The food is outstanding!! I always go with lamb when it comes Middle Eastern food because they know what their doing. Try the lamb kebabs. The salad that comes with is amazing and so is the hummus with warm pita bread. This was also the first time I had a falafel, which I thought was pretty damn good. The sauce that came with it was delicious. Warning! You will be full by the end of this meal. We split a combination platter of the lamb kebobs and the falafel and I was full and satisfied. With that being said, you need to get a Baklava to go. Its only $2.75 and you will thank me later. I have been trying to find authentic Baklava for a few months now and no place can satisfy me. This place was the closest yet.
