Flamingos wade in lakes of the Bolivian altiplano
On Bolivia's southern border to Chile and Argentina lies a magical area called the 'altiplano'. Algae has turned lakes into artworks of green and pink in which Flamingos search for food and Llamas come to drink. Due to it's elevation the area is barren and surrounded by nearby snow topped mountains, giving it a very moon like feel. One of the most unique and visually exciting places I've ever experienced. It's only accessible via a guided 4 wheel drive tour and best experienced via a 3-4 day tour. Anything less and you would miss out on some spectacular sights. It's not only a visual delight but also allows you to get up-close with the gentile Bolivian indigenous population who live in this harsh but beautiful environment. A photographer's dream and adventure I won't easily forget.
