Delightful s p a c e with quirky, honest character
In the odd town of Swakopmund, which reminded us a little of a German-themed Disney set among the sand dunes of coastal Namibia, we experienced a lovingly crafted space in Alternative Space bed and breakfast. Designed and run by a husband and wife team, this B&B has its roots as an art gallery, then became the family home, and later expanded as a B&B. The communal areas are warm and inviting, the outdoor space unlike any garden courtyard we've encountered, full of surprises in sculpture and form. Our room had no straight walls, and was befitted with a claw-footed free standing tub. Work from local artists adorn the walls. As it states on their website, "The accommodation at the Alternative Space B&B is NOT RECOMMENDED for those that are miserable, or finds pictures of nudity and mixed race relationships, offensive." We enjoyed exploring the space, which lends itself to meeting and talking with fellow lodgers.
