For many travelers, a visit to the home of Iditarod champion Jeff King proves to be the highlight of their time at Denali. This California native moved to Alaska in 1975 and took part in his first dogsled race a year later. He’s one of only five mushers to have won the famous 1,600-kilometer (1,000-mile) Iditarod four times (in 1993, 1996, 1998 and 2006).
During the tour, King explains how he turns young dogs into world-class champions, offers a dogsled demonstration and describes the survival gear needed to compete in such extreme temperatures. Another undeniable highlight of the tour: Visitors get to hold and pet the puppies.
