Established by King Abdullah in 2003, the museum showcases rare vehicles—vintage and new—many of which are owned by the royal family. King Hussein’s motorcycle is part of the permanent collection, as is the Mars rover from the movie The Martian, which was filmed in the Wadi Rum desert of southern Jordan. With such varied pieces on display, being crazy about cars isn’t a prerequisite; this museum frequently ends up at the top of cultural recommendations. That’s partly thanks to the fascinating descriptions that link many of the automobiles on display to the political and historical narratives of Jordan.
