Seeing artisans at work in Chimaltenango

Large arrow left

We were driving along the main highway from Panajachel to Antigua, and we stopped when we saw a sign about a local artisan mercado, thinking we might be able to find a few authentic gifts. What we actually found was so much more amazing!

Aj Quen is an association of Guatemalan artisans that works together to produce products for large fair trade retailers. In their headquarters, you get to meet artisans and see them at work, and learn how their different weaving and production processes work. It was really cool to see everything that goes into making a purse or a scarf, and it definitely made me want to support their work and buy lots of awesome products after getting to know the people behind the products.
