It would be hard to do better in Provence than in a city that is named after the region, right?
Totally right. Aix-en-Provence is the region's most delightful, easily accessible and interesting mid-sized city, and its markets are not to be missed. My favorite one? The Place Richelme one, which is filled with fresh fruits and veggies, cheeses and saucisson, as well as many local delicacies.
The best part? The free tastings. Just ask with a smile and most vendors will be more than happy to share their products with neophytes, and share a good laugh. Indeed, the two best things about Provence are its food and its kind people, and this market in Aix is the perfect place to experience both.
You might never want to leave.
