I lead safaris in Namibia that focus on conservation and needed an airline to bring me directly from Germany.
The only direct flight offered from Europe to Windhoek is on Air Namibia. Why settle for extended layovers in South Africa? Most travelers don’t consider this smaller airline, or their travel agents don’t think to recommend it.
I flew Air Namibia from Maun to Windhoek in 2011, and in 2016 I returned as a long-haul Business Class flyer from Frankfurt to Windhoek. Beyond the direct-flight convenience, Air Namibia’s new Airbus 330-200 was impeccably clean and comfortable. The Business Class price was much more reasonable than most other airlines so the splurge wasn’t a budget killer.
Returning to Germany after 5 weeks in-country that ended with a food-borne illness, I was in bad shape getting back on that plane but the air stewards were so kind and helped me feel very comfortable that I arrived home rested and feeling better than ever.
Here’s hoping Air Namibia adds more direct long-haul flights because after my experience I’ll be recommending them to all my future guests.
