From the end of October to early April, around 30,000 cranes spend the winter in the Hula Valley Reserve. Thousands more pass by as they migrate from Europe to Africa.
We went in mid-Feb and were there during feeding time during sunset. The noise was incredible and the sight of thousands of cranes grouped together as the sun set behind the surrounding hills was breathtaking.
The reserve is very well organized and there are many other birds that can be seen. We hired a golf cart to travel around but it is also possible to walk, ride bikes or take a guided tour.
