Rows of Wonderful Crusty Breads at Acme Bread Company
I've lived in New York and Los Angeles, and tasted world class breads in those cities, but I return again and again to my favorite boulangerie, Acme Bread Company, in Berkeley. Steve Sullivan, Acme's owner, started out baking breads for Chez Panisse in the late 1970's. He was one of the first artisan bread bakers in this country, and still the best in my opinion. When I am in the Bay Area, I usually try to pick up an Herb Slab and a Whole Wheat Cranberry with Raisins and Walnuts to take home with me.
