Abolition Museum

How fitting that the Abolition Museum occupies an old sugarcane mill's fine mansion, called the Casa Grande da Madalena, which has a gorgeous Portuguese tile facade, but whose very existence was a result of slave labor. The museum covers the horrific reality of the slave era between the 18th and 19th centuries and honors the abolition movement. The space also includes contemporary art and sculpture exhibitions.
