I stumbled upon 13 Gobbi quite by accident and, like so many other meals in Italy, left completely elated by the serendipity of it all. But, unlike some other Italian meals I've enjoyed in my travels, I left leaving a piece of my heart in the place because the handmade pici pasta with "cacio e pepe" (cheese and pepper) stole it away. You see, they don't just shave aged pecorino OVER the pasta - No. They actually finish the pasta in a giant wheel of the stuff. Yes. Your steaming bowl of perfect pici is brought from the kitchen and carefully tossed IN a wheel of cheese at your table before being served. I'm sure they have other things on their menu, but I've been back 6-7 times now and this is the only dish (along with the house wine, a salad, and some dolci) that I can bring myself to order. The staff always smiles, knowingly, and then says "see you next time!"
