Happy New Year! We hope yours is off to a good start.
We’re kicking off 2015 with another AFAR Conversations, the unique series that brings together the influential and diverse voices of the AFAR Community. On January 21, we will explore The Evolution of the Luxury Consumer.
Today’s luxury consumer seeks products and experiences that go beyond the commonplace. For them, exceptional craftsmanship, uniqueness, and exquisite design are the differentiating hallmarks that characterize luxury.
The idea of luxury has changed dramatically over the last decade, and it raises countless questions. How do we define luxury? Is it measured in thread count, leisure hours, or unique experiences? What does the luxury consumer expect today and what will they want next? And does a luxury brand stay relevant to these desires?
Our panelists for this evening include Adam D. Tihany, widely regarded as the preeminent hospitality designer. His unconventional approach to luxury is sure to provoke discussion. John T. A. Vanderslice, global head of luxury & lifestyle brands for Hilton Worldwide, presides over two of the world’s leading hospitality luxury groups—Conrad and Waldorf Astoria. Walter Coyle is president of Pedone Media, a full-service advertising agency whose clients include Hermès, Jimmy Choo, Montblanc fragrances, and more.
How do you define luxury?
Please submit your thoughts below in the comments section and join us on January 21 in New York City for an evening of cocktails, hors d’ouevres, networking, and to add your voice to the conversation.
