A few friends recently invited me to join them for a long weekend in Los Cabos, Mexico. It was the ultimate in ease. One of my friends made the reservations; all I had to do was show up and enjoy. That I can do!

We split our nights between Las Ventanas, a beautiful resort on the Sea of Cortéz, and Todos Santos, a slow-paced beach town about an hour up the Pacific Coast. During my two days at Las Ventanas, I didn’t leave the property. I had everything I needed. But for my time in Todos Santos,

I wanted to explore. I had been intrigued by our story about Todos Santos in the March/April issue of AFAR, which highlighted the vibrant culinary scene.

Except I didn’t bring the issue with me. And my memory isn’t what it used to be. But I did have my laptop, which meant that all I had to do was go to AFAR.com and search for Todos Santos. There was the art gallery I had faintly remembered from our story, and the café that serves locally roasted coffee in its garden patio. Even if I hadn’t brought my laptop, I could have found these great ideas on AFAR’s mobile app, which works seamlessly with the site.

But I found even more than magazine content on AFAR.com. Our most passionate travelers had shared Highlights with great photos and descriptions, including Casa Tota, a hotel with an honor bar next to its rooftop Jacuzzi. What had begun as a vague recollection of a page in a magazine was now an exciting itinerary of many places to go and things to do.

I realize I’m biased. But as I sat on the rooftop at Casa Tota sipping margaritas with my friends after a day of exploring the treasures I’d found on AFAR.com, I reflected on how exciting this was for me as a traveler. I no longer had to tear pages out of my favorite magazine and hope to find them when I really needed to. I now had access to hundreds of Highlights from the pages of AFAR, plus more—12,000, at last count—posted by travelers like me.

I urge you to go to AFAR.com, to download our mobile app, and to get inspired, plan a trip, and record and share your discoveries. It’s an amazing way to travel deeper.

Good travels,

Greg Sullivan

P.S. As you may have noted on the cover of this issue, we recently won, for the second time in three years, the 2012 Lowell Thomas Award for the Best Travel Magazine from the Society of American Travel Writers. Our website also received the bronze award for Online Travel Journalism.

I want to congratulate all the other winners and to thank our staff, writers, photographers, and other contributors whose passion and love for travel have made AFAR what it is. Applause all around!
