This week, we’re taking a look at the more traditional side of travel videos—those that are geared entirely toward informing the viewer about off-the-beaten-path travel experiences, as well as how to replicate those experiences yourself. First, Travel with Kate takes us fishing in Tunisia. Next, AFAR local expert Joshua Berman brings us along on his journey to Caracol, for the end of the Maya Long Count—the final day of the 13th Baktun. Finally, Alli Sports gives us an inside look at life and surf culture on the North Shore in Hawaii.

“Fishing in Tunisia, Part 1,” Travel with Kate: Experienced traveler Kate Thomas joins a family of fishermen that has been plying the coastal waters of Tunisia for generations—and manages to have a pretty outstanding time along the way. (You can watch Part 2 here.)

“A Night on Sky Temple: Honoring the Maya Long Count in Belize,” Joshua Berman: In this video, we get an inside look at an ancient festival on a truly historic occasion—while Hollywood might have had a more apocalyptic take on what would happen in 2012, the real Mayans are still celebrating the way that generation upon generation of their ancestors did, in a setting that is as dramatic as it is beautiful.

“The Aloha Spirit of Hawaii’s North Shore Surfers,” Alli Sports: This video provides an in-depth take on the surf culture of North Shore Hawaii, with some fantastic action shots mixed in alongside athlete interviews with the folks that brave some of the largest swells in the world.

If you have a video that you think is worth a damn, send it to us (community@afar.com). We’re on the hunt for videos that inspire, make us think, open our eyes and get us dreaming.
