Though the town, the beaches and the restaurants are packed to the gills in the high season, you can always hop on a boat to get away from it all. Whales once trolled the coasts of Nantucket giving the island international wealth and recognition. These days you have to travel further out for whale watching tours. Just off the coast you'll catch plenty of Blue Fish and if you're lucky, the coveted Striped Bass. Charter fishing can get expensive, but split the cost amongst a group and it's pretty reasonable - especially since you'll have the freshest dinner to take home. Your captian or mate will fillet your keepers as soon as you dock. If you're staying in a hotel and have nowhere to prepare the day's catch, many of the restaurants will cook it up for a small charge. So, grab a case of beer, pack a lunch, and spend the day offshore - a true Nantucket experience!
