Depending on how you feel on a given day, the souq can be one of the most exciting, crazed, interesting, or even frustrating experiences in any Moroccan city. Heading out early one morning to do some sightseeing, though, I found most of the shopkeepers just setting things up, hardly interested at all in having me come in to "just look--don't have to buy!" Having been here a month, now, it was as shocking as it was peaceful to find that a less manic side of the souq does, in fact, exist, if only you find your way there before 9 AM.
