Where To Lace Up Your Skates in the Windy City

If you're visiting Chicago in the winter, be sure to make your way to one of the city's many ice rinks.

For outdoor skating with a view, head to the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millenium Park. The ice skating rink is sandwiched between Cloud Gate, the iconic Chicago sculpture better known as "the bean" and the skyscrapers along Michigan Avenue. Skating is free, but skate rental is $10.

For indoor skating with a view, make your way up to the 94th floor of the John Hancock building. From January through April, you can skate 1,000 feet above Chicago, but it'll cost you. Skating is $6 for 25 minutes, and skate rental is $1 more. But you'll also have to buy admission to the Hancock Observatory, which is $17.50 for adults and $11.50 for kids under 12.

If you're ready to trade skyscrapers for a cozy neighborhood with an iconic American as apple pie view, head north of downtown to Wrigleyville. Each winter, a parking lot outside Wrigley Field is transformed into the ultimate outdoor neighborhood skating rink. Admission is between $5 and $10 for adults and skate rental is an additional $5 to $10 depending on when you go. Take the red line El to Addison and check out the bars on Clark Street when you're done.
