Tomb Raider
Exploring the Beng Mealea Temple, a three-hour drive from Siem Reap is like being transported to the sets of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, or Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider.
Built to a similar scale and floor plan as Angkor Wat, Beng Mealea was constructed by Suryavarman II (1112-52) and is the perfect "lost temple" now slowly being reclaimed by the jungle. A moat measuring 1.2km by 900m encircles the site, though today its dried up.
On approach it appears to be a just huge pile of rock and rubble cloaked by jungle, but once you get closer to the high walls, the beauty of the Khmer architecture and carvings reveals itself. A must see on any trip to Cambodia!
