The Road to Waimea, The Big Island

If you take Highway 19 from Waikoloa, you'll drive past what acres of moon-like terrain. And then all of a sudden, there appear small hills, then mountains with all shades of sepia and green tones. Waimea is considered cowboy country and there's not a lot to do in terms of nightlife, but it's a stunning place and close to famous hikes like Waipio Valley (note: you need a four wheel drive to trek down this Valley). Expect to see stunning redwood trees and meadows of horses and cattle grazing peacefully, without a care in the world.
