The Best Gelato in Rome

When it comes to ice cream, there is still only one place in Rome. It has been the best since 1900. I love Giolitti not only for the great gelato, but also because it hasn’t changed since I was a little girl.

I agree Pepi. I've made 4 visits to Italy and 6 visits to Giolitti's - you do the math :)

This week, I discovered that they have a branch in Dubai, right around the corner from the Aston-Martin dealership near the Dubai Mall.

I will gladly admit that any actual gelato is good. But, I have found the gelato in Firenze is the best. The city also has a big Gelato Festival. I will also admit readily that I am a Florentine at heart.

Firenze is a different story. I personally enjoy Vivoli's :)

Hm...I disagree. Giolitti is great. HOWEVER. A Roman police officer saw us in line at Giolitti and suggested going around the corner to GROM for the best gelato. Tried Giolitti 3 times, and GROM at least 6, and I'd definitely say GROM wins out.

In case you cant make it to Rome or Florence in the near future, I'll mention that the Greenwich Village Grom in NYC is very good, try the licorice gelato.
So you don't absolutely have to go to il laboratorio del gelato, although if you do it's well worth the trip to Ludlow Street.
