The Ancient Sunrise Ritual of Buddha's Disciples

I took this photo while visiting Luang Prabang, which is the 3rd largest city in Laos and used to be the capital. The entire city has been named a world heritage site due to its beautiful valley and river setting, the quality of life and the culture. In a town of 60,000 people there are 65 temples (all breath taking) and about 1,500 monks.
Monks are not allowed to cook for themselves, so their day starts with an early walk through town where locals great them with a pinch of sticky rice carefully placed into a metal container that hangs from their neck. This peaceful and important tradition has been practiced since ancient times and is definitely worth the 5:30 AM wake up call.
