The Abstract Print Giveaway!
This little slice of life was captured on 35mm red scale film (manufactured by Lomography) to give it an added twist.
I originally wanted to enter this photo into the CATCH contest under the 'Unlikely Art' theme but I asked the Digital Team at AFAR if I could do a print giveaway for the online community and they approved.
The first commenter to correctly identify what the item is in the photo will receive one free print (of the photo above) from me, Colin. Hi.

It's a drain on the street--right?
ha! I was wondering about the Antarctica location...
I'm going to guess: manhole cover...since 'drain on the street' was already taken...
Mandy and Joseph you are both extremely close but I am looking for more specific verbiage.
To include more people I am throwing in a second print to the person who can guess the location.
Keep the guesses coming in...
hmm...okay: 'storm drain cover'...is that it?
As for the location--thinking of where you've been, hmm...
Seoul? Tulsa?
Joseph, the guess is very close again but not what I'm looking for.
On the second guess concerning the location would you please answer with only one location.
Gyeongbukgung, Seoul, Korea :D
okay....so: "metal grating covering a drain in a courtyard" in Seoul...?
This is preposterous, but why not? A fancy squat toilet cover... in Bodhgaya?
Stephan Lirk is one winner with his very specific answer for the location.
Joseph even though I look like Alex Trebek I frown upon answering with a question but since I'm a reasonable person, you're in as a location winner as well. I will message Stephan and you privately with some details as soon as we can get a final winner.
Rob: Your answer is priceless but incorrect.
The subject is still up for grabs...several guesses have been close but there is a specific name for what this is and nobody has said it.
"storm drain grate" in Seoul...
What is sewer drain cover?
a drain cover is also called a "grate inlet" - was that the specificity you were looking for?
It looks like Joseph Cyr has wrapped this thing up. Storm drain grate is what I was looking for.
The winners will be contacted!
Manhole cover?
wait, no manhole covers in antarctica.... heating vent?
