Freezing temperatures (-30 degrees F!), a drive up a steep, winding  wooded slope, and we were at the summit of Two Top Mountain, Montana (9,000 feet) where the fierce winds have entombed the trees in snow. They are bent and twisted, covered with ghostly patterns until they resemble something from a frozen fairy tale.

Wending your way through the trees to gaze out over five mountain ranges and two national parks in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho, be careful not to sink into the white stuff – you are in fact standing at the tops of the trees buried beneath you!
