We were on one of a several river journeys near Anavilhanas Lodge west of Manaus, looking for the expected dolphin, bird, or snake and right in front of us we find a sloth swimming across the wide river! Slow as molasses on land, but really not bad swimmers. Our guide circled the boat and gently lifted the sloth on to his oar. A totally, totally docile animal that exhibited not the slightest fear or annoyance. We transported our guest to the river bank destination and shook him off the oar gently on to a tree. Look at the fur mid-body. Oddly shaped like another animal's head. Weird!
