Sittin' on a rock by the bay . . .
In Rio, a rocky promontory divides the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. At the end is a large flat rock that was once a place where fishermen harpooned the whales that came to reproduce in the warm waters. Hence the Portuguese name Arpoador, meaning "fisherman who uses harpoon." Today it's a place to sit, watch the surf and surfers, witness the sunset over Ipanema - and enjoy being alive.
