Chicago is known for being the home of President Barack Obama. So it is fitting that a Chicago suburb rename a street after our famous President Barack Obama. Calumet Park, IL changed the name of 127th Street to Obama Drive. A piece of Chicago’s gangster history lives on Obama Drive at Dillinger’s Drive – In . It is an interesting mix of two Chicago legends.

If you are unfamiliar with the story of John Dillinger, he was a 1930′s gangster who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. He has been idolized in American History. Johnny Depp recently portrayed John Dillinger in the movie “Public Enemies.”

Dillinger’s Drive-In is located in a mixed predominately Black, Latino, and White neighborhood. I believe the owner John is the grandson or nephew of John Dillinger. Dillinger’s Drive- In is known for its fruit milkshakes and the food is true American fare offering cheeseburgers, fries, gyros, pizza puffs, turkey burgers, and hot dogs.

It looks like a pretty ordinary fast food restaurant set among other local fast food restaurants, but the inside to the drive- in is more like a pop culture shrine to President Barack Obama, Chicago Bulls and hundreds of celebrities. The owner John is practical hundreds of photos covering every inch of wall space. It is worth a visit for a famous fruit milkshake and to browse the photos.
