Sitka is a glorious area of southeast Alaska. With a long native Alaskan and really interesting totem pole history, this series of islands is both beautiful and educational. The only way to get there is by plane or boat, and it frequently rains (a lot). But on a sunny day, with the mountains blending into the ocean, there isn't a better place to kayak in the US, in my opinion. Whales, sea stars, sea lions, dozens of bird species, bald eagles, porpoises, light houses, islands, snow capped mountains, and Alaskan history...amazing.
