Russia Invades Mexico

Back in the 1800's Russians settled in the Valle de Guadalupe in northern Baja California. Among the many European activities they brought into the valley was viticulture. Since then, wine has been grown in valley just northeast of Ensenada and no fuss has been made over those wines until very recently. Vinos Bibayoff is the result of that history and like many other vintners in the valley are making world class wines that only those in "the know" are drinking, enjoying and keeping secret. The entire valley is realizing and capitalizing on the Provencal microclimate found here and creating very good wine, producing fantastic olive oil and developing a cuisine that is very "un-Mexican" out of locally sourced Mexican ingredients. All of this creative energy is happening just a couple hours drive south of San Diego.
