I opted to walk up to the Amer Palace (which took all of 10 minutes) instead of standing in the long line of tourists waiting to catch a ride on one of the brightly painted elephants. That saved me a bit of time and also allowed me the freedom to stand by the gate where they were entering and leaving the palace courtyard, taking photos of these beautiful creatures to my heart's content.
